Aloha, my full name is Troy Francois O'Brien Stanley Carney and I was born in New Zealand but have resided on the island of Kauai, Hawaii for the past 23 years. I'm a self-trained artist and have painted since I could hold a brush. I grew up in a surfing family that started with my stepfather that shaped boards for my brother and I. He also was the owner of many different surfboard companies in New Zealand. My mother is a very talented artist and was classically trained with traditional oils at Auckland University. I was sucked into the world of hard labor at 17. From fishing boats to carpentry and many years as a custom air-brusher for surfboards and windsurfing companies on Kauai, Maui, Australia and New Zealand. I managed to escape that toxic spray and found my way into the fine arts world. For the last 6 years I’ve been working in the mediums of oils, 12k white gold to 24k yellow gold on a wooden bas-relief. I'm constantly experimenting with relief surfaces that reflect my highlights and change through the day in mood and color. My style has been called romantic realism and features many exotic elements such as oceanscapes and indigenous peoples from the pacific islands to the mountains of Northern Vietnam where I travel often to give proceeds of my work to the minority hill tribes.
More to come....
