Lani, 36x48in. oil on canvas. The hair is a strong magenta color to represent the Mana (spiritual power) that the Polynesians believe resides in their hair. Hair is very sacred for the New Zealand Maori and the Hawaiians would wear Hair Loom necklaces made by the hair of their slain to hold the dead peoples energy. All through out the pacific you avoid touching ones head. The last white man eaten in Fiji was killed in the 40's for showing a chief how to use a comb and reached out to touch the chiefs hair with it. Bad move guy.
